competitions.
The torch’s journey will continue to Effat University, carried by cyclist Dania Sambawi and Paralympic weightlifter Saeed Al-Hawsawi, with Prince Saud praising the Kingdom's support for sports and wishing success to all participants.
Jeddah, September 4, 2024 — Today at King Abdulaziz University, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, the Governor of Jeddah, officially received the torch for the third edition of the Saudi Games 2024. The ceremony was marked by the handover of the torch from celebrated footballer Mohammed Noor, who earned the distinction of Best Player in the League in 2009.
The torch relay event at the university was a vibrant occasion featuring prominent athletes. Triathlete Nora Al-Sudairi, who has achieved significant accolades including a gold medal at the Bahrain Triathlon Federation Championship 2023, a bronze medal at the 2023 Saudi Games, and another bronze at the 2023 Jeddah Governorate Triathlon, participated in the ceremony. This event is part of an extensive promotional tour designed to generate excitement and anticipation for the Kingdom's largest national sporting event.
Following its time at King Abdulaziz University, the torch will make a noteworthy visit to the historic Asfan Castle. There, it will be carried by karate practitioner Yaqoub Bukhou, who clinched gold in individual kata at the 2023 Asian Junior and Youth Championship held in Kazakhstan. Joining Bukhou will be Najwa Salhab, a padel player who earned third place in both the 2022 and 2023 Saudi Games.
The torch’s journey will then continue to Effat University, where it will be carried by cyclist Dania Sambawi, who secured a silver medal at the Saudi Games 2023. Saeed Al-Hawsawi, a Paralympic weightlifter who won a bronze medal at the 2022 West Asian Championship and a silver medal at the 2023 Saudi Games, will also participate in the relay.
In his address, Prince Saud lauded the unwavering support provided by the Kingdom’s leadership for sports and athletes. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the encouragement and resources dedicated to enhancing the sporting landscape.
