Jeddah, March 22, 2025, The AlBidayah zone (The Beginning) at the Islamic Arts Biennale, themed "And all that is in Between," is held until May 25 at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, featuring rare Islamic artifacts and treasures that highlight sacred sites in Islam rarely seen outside Makkah and Madinah.

A key piece in the collection is a historic mobile stairway that once provided access to the elevated door of the Holy Kaaba. Measuring about 5 meters in length and 4 meters in height, the stairway is adorned with intricate Baroque-style decorations. Presented to the Holy Kaaba in the 1820s by the ruler of the Carnatic Sultanate in South India, it reflects the grandeur of Islamic history and ancient architectural craftsmanship.

This stairway was primarily used by men when the Kaaba's door was open, playing a key role in facilitating access to the Holy Kaaba. A separate silver stairway, gifted by the ruler of Rampur in India between 1865-1887 AD, was designated for women.

The Islamic Arts Biennale offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore these artifacts, delving into their cultural significance and the lasting connection between historical rulers and Makkah. It highlights the tradition of gifting valuable items to the Holy Kaaba as a sign of respect and reverence for its sacred role in the Muslim community."
