Jeddah to Host International Forum Tackling Hatred and Violence in Media

Jeddah, November 19, 2023, Next Sunday, the Kingdom is set to host the International Forum on the Propagation of Hatred and Violence in Media in Jeddah. The event is co-organized by the Assistant Secretariat for Corporate Communication in the Muslim World League (MWL) and the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).

Distinguished figures, including MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha, and General Supervisor of Official Media in Palestine, Minister Ahmed Assaf, will be in attendance. The forum is convened against the backdrop of senseless crimes targeting religious symbols and sanctities, masquerading under the guise of freedom of expression, as well as a biased and misinformation-driven agenda perpetuated by certain international media outlets.

In addition to the notable attendees mentioned, the forum will witness the participation of major Islamic and international news agencies, renowned religious, intellectual, legal, and human rights figures, as well as leaders of international organizations.

The event's agenda will delve into several topics, with a special focus on themes relevant to current issues, such as "Bias and Misrepresentation in International Media: The Palestinian Cause as a Model." The aim is to identify the shortcomings in media treatment of global issues, especially those of a religious nature, and to underscore the adverse impact of incitement and bias in media discourse on human societies. The overarching goal of the forum is to formulate a joint international alliance against the dangers of misrepresentation, bias, and the proliferation of hatred in media discourse. Through collaborative efforts, the forum seeks to pave the way for a more balanced and responsible media landscape.
