In a recent statement, the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) addressed allegations against Coalition Forces targeting specific locations in Yemen. The first allegation involved a house in Nubat A'mir village in the Al-Mokha directorate of Taiz governorate on 03/07/2017.
After a thorough investigation, JIAT analyzed various documents, including air tasking orders, mission schedules, and satellite images. It was determined that the claimed house's location did not correspond to the military target. Additionally, the timing and nature of the incident did not align with the Coalition Forces' air mission, which occurred earlier in the day.
Similarly, JIAT addressed allegations regarding the targeting of the Mercure Hotel in Khurmaksar directorate of Aden governorate on 18/04/2015. JIAT found that the hotel, being used by Al-Houthi armed militia to command and control military operations, constituted a legitimate military target. The Coalition Forces took precautions and executed an air mission accordingly, minimizing potential damage to civilian objects.
Through video recordings, satellite images, and on-site inspections, JIAT concluded that the Coalition Forces' actions in both instances were in accordance with International Humanitarian Law and its customary rules.
Lastly, JIAT issued a statement dismissing allegations of targeting the Afar customs office in Al-Bayda governorate.
