JIAT statement on alleged aerial targeting in Al-Hodeidah governorate, December 6, 2021

Riyadh, January 24, 2024, In an official statement released by the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) regarding the alleged aerial targeting incident in the (Al Abadiyah Al Ulya) area within the (Zabid) directorate of (Al-Hodeidah) governorate on (06/12/2021), the following details were provided:

According to information received by JIAT, an aerial targeting incident took place at approximately 5:00 pm on (06/12/2021), resulting in the injury of a man and two children in a residential area in (Al Abadiyah Al Ulya) within the (Zabid) directorate of (Hodeidah) governorate.

After a thorough examination of the incident, JIAT meticulously reviewed various documents, including air tasking orders, daily mission schedules, mission execution procedures, after-mission reports, satellite images, Coalition Forces rules of engagement, provisions, and principles of International Humanitarian Law along with its customary rules. Following the assessment of the evidence, JIAT found that the (Zabid) directorate is situated in the southern part of (Al-Hodeidah) governorate, and no specific coordinates for the claimed location were provided.

Upon analyzing the air missions conducted by the Coalition Forces on the claimed date of (06/12/2021), JIAT determined that there were no air missions carried out in the entirety of the (Zabid) directorate within the (Hodeidah) governorate.

Furthermore, by examining the daily mission schedule for the Coalition Forces on the day before and the day after the claimed incident date, JIAT found the following:

  • On (05/12/2021), the day before the alleged incident date, Coalition Forces did not conduct any air missions in the (Zabid) directorate of (Hodeidah) governorate.

  • On (07/12/2021), the day after the claimed incident date, Coalition Forces did not carry out any air missions in the (Zabid) directorate of (Hodeidah) governorate.

In conclusion, JIAT affirmed that there is no evidence to support the claim that Coalition Forces targeted a residential area in the (Zabid) directorate of (Hodeidah) governorate on (06/12/2021).
