Joint Arab-Islamic Committee Addresses Gaza Situation in UN Meeting

Under the leadership of His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, members of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit convened an official meeting with China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on November 29, 2023. The committee, comprising representatives from Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Türkiye, Indonesia, and the League of Arab States, discussed the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip. Emphasis was placed on the achievements of the humanitarian truce, including the release of prisoners, and the ongoing efforts toward an immediate ceasefire. The committee stressed the crucial responsibility of Security Council permanent member states in protecting civilians and upholding international law. Central to the discussion was the urgency for the international community to secure relief corridors for the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The committee members reiterated the call for a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace, urging the implementation of international resolutions for a two-state solution. They emphasized the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the borders of June 4, 1967. In addition, the committee called on the international community to reject selectivity in applying legal and moral standards, urging protection against crimes committed by occupation forces and settlers in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The meeting underscored the committee's commitment to addressing the pressing humanitarian and peace challenges in the region.
