Riyadh, October 22, 2023, Following the visit of Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a joint statement was issued today, emphasizing the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim embarked on an official visit to Saudi Arabia on 21/10/2023 and was warmly received by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
During their official talks, the leaders discussed the historical relations between their countries, with Malaysia acknowledging Saudi Arabia's dedication to serving the Two Holy Mosques and its pilgrims. They also discussed Riyadh's aspirations to host the World Expo 2030 and the 2034 World Cup, which received Malaysia's support.
The importance of activating the Saudi-Malaysian Coordination Council and its subcommittees was underscored, fostering collaboration in areas of mutual interest. In the economic and trade sectors, both nations recognized their common interests and the remarkable 160% increase in bilateral trade in 2022.
To further develop trade relations and promote investment opportunities, both sides emphasized closer ties between private sectors. Saudi Arabia invited Malaysian companies to participate in the projects of the Saudi Vision 2030.
The leaders also expressed a shared aspiration to strengthen cooperation in Islamic finance and support for the Saudi bid to host the 17th session of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) in 2027.
In the field of energy, they praised their cooperation within the OPEC+ Group to stabilize global petroleum markets and the importance of continued collaboration in this regard.
Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to be Malaysia's primary partner for crude oil supplies, while both nations recognized the need to enhance cooperation in petrochemicals and agricultural fertilizers.
They also highlighted the importance of adhering to climate agreements and shared their dedication to combating extremism and terrorism.
On the Yemeni issue, they supported UN and regional efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution and applauded the Kingdom's role in humanitarian aid.
Both sides welcomed the resumption of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and underscored the importance of a peaceful nuclear program and comprehensive negotiations in the region.
In relation to the Palestinian cause, they called for an end to military escalation and the protection of civilians. They urged the international community to pressure Israel to respect international law and humanitarian law.
Regarding Afghanistan, both nations stressed coordination to achieve security and stability, preventing its use as a haven for terrorist groups, and supporting humanitarian efforts.
On the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, they emphasized peaceful resolution and de-escalation.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and HRH the Crown Prince wished the Malaysian people further progress and prosperity, concluding the visit on a positive note.
