Riyadh, September 30, 2023, The King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL) in Riyadh has pursued a strategic objective of translating numerous significant books across diverse domains, encompassing scientific, literary, historical, and cultural realms, including literature for children.
KAPL's extensive translation efforts have resulted in the conversion of more than 100 works, with a particular focus on texts authored by Western scholars, orientalists, and travelers delving into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its illustrious founder, King Abdulaziz Al Saud. Additionally, the library has prioritized the translation of books related to pivotal subjects such as history, Islamic civilization, and library science.
On the occasion of International Translation Day, observed annually on September 30th, the library proudly showcases its most noteworthy translated publications achieved since the launch of its scientific publishing and translation initiative. These translations span an array of international languages, including English, French, German, Korean, Hindi, Urdu, Czech, Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese.
Established in 1953, the International Federation of Translators has observed International Translation Day since 1991. This global celebration serves to foster collaboration among translators worldwide and underscore the profound significance of translation and the invaluable contributions of translators. Notably, the United Nations General Assembly officially recognized and commemorated this pivotal day for the first time on September 30, 2017.
