KAUST and SSA collaborate for ambitious Saudi space research initiatives

Riyadh, October 08, 2023, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) have joined forces to evaluate Saudi Arabia's space program and set the stage for more ambitious and impactful space research endeavors.

Representatives from the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) made a visit to KAUST in September to promote the Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) workshop focused on space. This workshop provided a unique opportunity for KAUST faculty and researchers to collaborate with SSA experts and strategize solutions to challenges within Saudi Arabia's space sector.

Dr. Najah Ashry, Vice President for Strategic National Advancement at KAUST, emphasized that the university's new research strategy revolves around the pillars of RDI within the Kingdom. To realize Saudi Arabia's ambitious RDI vision, Dr. Ashry highlighted KAUST's collaboration with key stakeholders like the SSA, underlining the significance of this partnership in aligning research with the Kingdom's objectives.

Dr. Ashry stressed the importance of close cooperation between KAUST's esteemed faculty and researchers and the SSA to expedite the Kingdom's space exploration endeavors.

The SSA is realigning all its core operations to enhance missions following the approval of funding for approximately 58 Saudi initiatives within the National Space Strategy, with approximately 34 of these initiatives falling under the purview of the SSA.
