KAUST Enhances its Scientific Research Efforts with 67 Projects in AI, Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity


KAUST's Research Initiatives: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is advancing scientific research with 67 projects in AI, bioinformatics, and cybersecurity, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 to nurture national talent and tackle future challenges.


KAUST Academy Program: The KAUST Academy has successfully graduated its second cohort, providing virtual and in-person courses to over 10,000 students and awarding scholarships to 200 top students for further study at renowned international institutions.


Collaborations and Training: KAUST’s collaborations with entities like the National Cybersecurity Authority and NEOM have enhanced its training programs, which focus on equipping students with advanced skills in AI and related fields through comprehensive education and practical experience.


Jeddah, August 27, 2024 – King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is reinforcing its dedication to scientific research with a robust array of 67 cutting-edge projects spanning critical fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), bioinformatics, and cybersecurity. These initiatives underscore KAUST's commitment to advancing education through global standards and state-of-the-art technology. By investing in these areas, KAUST aims to prepare future generations with the sophisticated skills and extensive knowledge required to confront upcoming challenges, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030's goal of nurturing national talent.


This year marks a significant milestone for the KAUST Academy training program, which has proudly celebrated the graduation of its second cohort. The program's structure is comprehensive, starting with virtual courses that reached over 7,000 students from Saudi universities in its initial phase. The subsequent stages included intensive in-person courses for more than 2,800 participants. The final stage saw 200 outstanding students being awarded scholarships, with placements at prestigious institutions including the University of Glasgow, the University of Oxford, the University of Toronto, the Broad Institute, Duke University, and KAUST itself.



KAUST's successful collaborations with the National Cybersecurity Authority, NEOM, and various private sector partners have played a pivotal role in this program's success. The university's mission is to equip students with the advanced capabilities required for high-impact research in AI, bioinformatics, and cybersecurity. This initiative is a cornerstone of KAUST’s strategy to provide superior training for Saudi university students, positioning it as one of the leading programs in the Kingdom.


Professor Sultan Albarakati, Director of KAUST Academy, emphasized that these programs are integral to the academy's strategy of fostering partnerships with universities and educational institutions across the Kingdom. He noted that KAUST Academy, established as a premier platform for ongoing education, is committed to enhancing technical skills demanded by today’s job market. The academy continues to offer specialized training programs tailored for university students and early-career professionals, focusing on AI, machine learning, and data science. Additionally, it provides a range of accreditation programs, diplomas, and partial master's degree courses, aimed at enriching both academic and professional development.
