Jeddah, May 14, 2024, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) launched yesterday the Green Schools Initiative to raise awareness about the environment in the schools of Thuwal, a coastal village in Jeddah, and inform about correct practices to preserve the environment.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Education’s Jeddah Education Department, the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC), Averda, Saudi Dow, and Napco, is part of the university's social responsibility programs, and a platform for consolidating the efforts and potential of relevant bodies to raise environmental awareness and adopt an approach that ensures environmental sustainability, with a focus on reducing and recycling plastic and paper waste in Thuwal schools.
KAUST Social Responsibility Leader Eng. Abdullah Zubair said that the university is launching the National Strategic Progress Sector Environmental Program, the Green Schools Program, as part of the university's social responsibility to aid the leadership's ambitions for environmental sustainability, envisioned in Saudi Vision 2030, by raising awareness to the need to preserve the environment and teaching new skills to students.
