Jeddah, March 23, 2025, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) scientists, in collaboration with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), have developed a breakthrough method to enhance lithium-metal batteries by integrating nylon into their design.

A press release highlighted the advantages of lithium-metal batteries, which offer higher energy density and lighter weight compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, making them ideal for robotics, transportation, and consumer electronics. However, current production methods rely on hazardous chemicals that reduce efficiency and safety.

Professor Husam Alshareef, head of the KAUST Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Storage Technologies, emphasized that this discovery presents a safer and more cost-effective approach to battery additives, reinforcing the role of scientific research in advancing renewable energy and decarbonization efforts in the Kingdom.
