Baku, November 14, 2024 – In a key meeting on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held talks with Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, to further their shared vision of sustainable development and cooperation.
The two leaders discussed expanding Kazakhstan-IsDB cooperation across several strategic areas, with a particular emphasis on climate action. As global temperatures rise and climate challenges intensify, both parties reiterated the urgency of robust climate initiatives to safeguard the environment and foster long-term economic resilience. The meeting underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its infrastructure and economic policies, while drawing on IsDB’s expertise and support to build a resilient and green future.
President Toqayev and Dr. Al Jasser explored opportunities for partnership in infrastructure development to address the needs of Kazakhstan’s growing economy. Their discussion covered how IsDB’s experience in financing and supporting infrastructure projects could align with Kazakhstan's goals to enhance connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability within its borders. They also highlighted IsDB’s commitment to bolstering Kazakhstan’s economic resilience, a priority as the nation continues to strengthen its position in the global economy.
Dr. Al Jasser expressed satisfaction with the Islamic Development Bank Group’s expanding engagement in Kazakhstan, noting the significant impact of their collaborative efforts over the years. He highlighted IsDB’s commitment to Kazakhstan through 74 impactful projects and technical assistance programs that total an investment of US$2.8 billion, aimed at spurring sustainable economic growth, enhancing infrastructure, and advancing technology and innovation.
