Riyadh, March 23, 2025 – King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSHRC) in Jeddah has successfully integrated an innovative medical technology that enhances the accuracy of brain tumor removal surgeries. The technique involves administering a special substance to the patient before surgery, which causes tumor cells to fluoresce under specific light during the procedure. This enables surgeons to differentiate between healthy and affected tissues, improving complete tumor removal rates by up to 30%, which positively affects patient recovery and reduces the risk of leaving residual cancer cells behind.

KFSHRC is the first hospital in the Kingdom to implement 5-Aminolevulinic Acid as a routine part of its surgical practice, solidifying its status as a leading center for advanced surgical care. This innovation addresses the challenges of removing high-grade gliomas, a type of brain tumor that blends into surrounding healthy tissue, making traditional surgeries more complex and risky.

As a prominent medical institution, KFSHRC is collaborating with hospitals both within the Kingdom and internationally to share knowledge and encourage broader adoption of this technique. This collaboration reflects KFSHRC's commitment to integrating cutting-edge innovations to improve patient care and provide world-class healthcare solutions.

KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th globally in the list of the world’s top 250 Academic Medical Centers for the second consecutive year. It has also been recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, according to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings. In the same year, it was ranked among the world’s top 250 hospitals and included in the World’s Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025 by Newsweek magazine.
