King Abdul Aziz Port sets record with 25.41% container increase

Riyadh, March 13, 2024, In February 2024, King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam set a new benchmark, handling 235,820 TEUs, marking a remarkable 25.41% surge compared to the throughput of 166,956 TEUs recorded in February 2023. This achievement represents the highest monthly handling capacity ever recorded at the port, underscoring the concerted efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) in its continuous endeavor to develop the port.

The notable increase in throughput is a testament to the strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering the port's infrastructure, thereby augmenting its productivity and operational efficiency while fortifying its logistical capabilities. Specifically, incoming container handling saw an impressive upswing of 48.95%, reaching 142,673 TEUs compared to 95,787 TEUs in the corresponding period of 2023. Similarly, outgoing container figures experienced a substantial uptick of 24.67%, reaching 86,250 TEUs compared to 69,184 TEUs in the previous year.

Moreover, ship traffic witnessed a significant surge of 247.46%, with 6,897 ships docking at the port compared to 1,985 ships in 2023. This achievement underscores the port's robust operational and logistical prowess, boasting 43 fully serviced and equipped berths capable of handling up to 105 million tons of goods and TEUs. The port is equipped with specialized facilities, advanced equipment, and modern machinery, enabling it to efficiently manage various cargo types. These advancements are aligned with the objectives outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), aimed at cementing the Kingdom's position as a premier global logistics hub bridging three continents.
