Jeddah, October 3, 2023, King Abdullah Economic City has become the home to the inaugural electric vehicle manufacturing facility affiliated with U.S.-based Lucid Motors, partially owned by the Public Investment Fund. Spanning over 1.35 million square meters, the facility occupies 31% of the total area dedicated to the automotive industry within the special economic zone at King Abdullah Economic City.
The Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority (ECZA) has recently granted the operational license for this manufacturing unit, known as AMP-2, which is poised to drive innovation, create employment opportunities for Saudi citizens, bolster the Kingdom's automotive supply chain, and offer specialized skills training. The facility aims to produce approximately 155,000 vehicles annually upon its completion and holds a strategic position within King Abdullah Economic City.
Lucid Motors contributes significantly to the Saudi Green Initiative's objective of having at least 30% electric vehicles in the Kingdom by 2030, a pivotal step toward diversifying the Kingdom's economy and fostering sustainability. AMP-2 has received substantial support from the Ministry of Investment, the Saudi Industrial Development Fund, and King Abdullah Economic City, and it will introduce groundbreaking electric vehicles to the Saudi market and export them to other markets.
Nabil Khojah, Secretary-General of ECZA, emphasized that this historic achievement aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, benefiting from government support to nurture local talent in the technology sector and create long-term economic value. Khojah highlighted that Lucid's presence signifies the Kingdom's commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology and industry, underpinning the establishment of additional factories.
Starting in 2023, the company's factory will manufacture four distinct electric vehicle models, reaching full production capacity by 2028. The facility will also feature 100 charging stations as part of its comprehensive infrastructure.
