King Salman chairs Cabinet session in Riyadh

Riyadh, February 6, 2024, Today, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, presided over a Cabinet session held in Riyadh. During the session, discussions centered on recent diplomatic engagements, including the meeting between King Salman and the Amir of the State of Kuwait, as well as talks between the Amir and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. These discussions reaffirmed the robust relations between the two nations, underscored their mutual desire to deepen cooperation across various sectors, and emphasized the importance of coordination on matters of shared interest.

Following the session, Minister of Media Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari conveyed that the Cabinet reviewed recent engagements of senior Saudi officials with counterparts from various countries. These interactions aim to bolster multilateral cooperation and enhance coordination to tackle global challenges, fostering a more prosperous and secure future.

Furthermore, the Cabinet commended the outcomes of the second meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), hosted in Riyadh. The Cabinet lauded the Kingdom's commitment to promoting moderation and combatting violence and extremism, as evidenced by its support of SAR 100 million for the IMCTC Fund for Financing Initiatives.

Regarding environmental efforts, the Cabinet highlighted the significance of hosting the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Saudi Arabia this December. This event aims to strengthen international cooperation in combating land degradation and mitigating the impacts of drought, contributing to global environmental, economic, and social benefits.

In addition to these discussions, the Cabinet issued several decisions, including:

1. Approving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's accession to the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

2. Approving a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Sheikhdom of the Republic of Montenegro in the field of Islamic affairs.

3. Authorizing discussions and signing an MoU for cooperation in the industrial field with the Algerian side.

4. Authorizing discussions and signing an MoU for cooperation in biological, cellular, and genetic medicines with the British side.

5. Approving an MoU for cooperation in the field of mining with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye.

6. Authorizing talks and signing an MoU to promote direct investment with the Trinidadian side.

7. Authorizing discussions and signing an MoU for cooperation in regulating pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cosmetic products with the Chinese side.
