RIYADH, March 29, 2025: The second anniversary of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) showcased the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority’s efforts to protect the environment and restore ecological balance.

The authority has implemented field initiatives, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programs, successfully restoring over 700,000 hectares of land, planting 3 million trees, and distributing 4 tonnes of seeds with the support of more than 11,000 volunteers.

Launched in 2021 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, prime minister and chairman of the SGI’s Higher Committee, the initiative unites community efforts to implement measurable environmental actions in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.

The authority has taken steps to protect vegetation from vehicle damage, educate the public on the importance of ecological restoration, and promote land sustainability to create safe habitats for wildlife.

Additionally, it has spread awareness among local communities about the dangers of logging and its impact on the environment.

Thursday’s anniversary celebration highlighted the SGI’s role in fostering environmental awareness across the Kingdom and inspiring individuals to contribute to a healthier future for coming generations.

The initiative also integrates sustainable programs with the nation’s broader environmental objectives, such as reducing harmful emissions, enhancing afforestation and land restoration efforts, and preserving both terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
