King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences Sees the Launch of Tarshid's Solar Energy System Project

Tarshid, in partnership with King Saud University for Health Sciences, has launched a solar panel installation project across the university’s buildings to enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption, generating 4 million kWh of renewable energy annually.

Riyadh, December 18, 2024 – The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid), in collaboration with King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh, has launched a transformative solar panel installation project across the university’s buildings and facilities. This initiative is part of Tarshid's broader efforts to promote energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption by harnessing solar power for self-consumption. The project is designed to meet global energy standards while contributing to Saudi Arabia's long-term sustainability objectives.

Waled bin Abdullah Al-Ghreri, CEO and Board Member of Tarshid, expressed the significance of the project, stating, “After conducting comprehensive technical assessments and energy audits across the buildings and facilities at King Saud University for Health Sciences, we identified a considerable opportunity to enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption. As a result, we are deploying a state-of-the-art 2,500 kWh solar panel system, which will be installed on the rooftops of university buildings.” He further elaborated that the system is expected to generate approximately 4 million kWh of clean, renewable energy annually, with most of the energy produced being used directly by the university itself.

The solar panel project is expected to have a profound environmental impact, with anticipated savings equivalent to the conservation of more than 6,600 barrels of oil annually. Additionally, the initiative will help prevent the emission of approximately 2,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year. This reduction in harmful emissions is comparable to the environmental benefits of planting more than 39,000 tree seedlings annually, underscoring the project’s significant contribution to the Kingdom's climate goals.

The installation of these solar panels aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strategic sustainability initiatives and is in direct support of the country’s Vision 2030 objectives. Vision 2030 emphasizes reducing the Kingdom’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources and promoting cleaner, more sustainable energy practices. Through projects like this, Tarshid is making substantial progress toward achieving the Kingdom’s energy efficiency targets and lowering its carbon footprint.

This initiative is a key component of Tarshid's broader mission to lead in the development of sustainable energy solutions across Saudi Arabia. The company remains committed to facilitating energy savings and reducing emissions, ultimately contributing to the global push for a more sustainable future. By partnering with KSAU-HS, Tarshid is not only supporting the university’s energy needs but also providing a scalable model for other institutions to follow in adopting renewable energy solutions.

The project reflects the growing emphasis on renewable energy within Saudi Arabia’s educational and public sectors. As the Kingdom accelerates its shift toward a greener, more sustainable future, initiatives such as this one serve as a cornerstone for creating lasting environmental change while ensuring a more energy-efficient and cost-effective tomorrow.
