King Saud Medical City (KSMC) has successfully performed over 512 surgeries for severe gynecological tumor removals in the past three years and has treated approximately 4,000 patients with various gynecological cancers.

Riyadh, October 5, 2024 — King Saud Medical City (KSMC), a cornerstone of the Riyadh First Health Cluster, has proudly announced a significant milestone in the fight against gynecological cancers, having successfully performed over 512 surgeries for severe tumor removals in the past three years at its Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. This achievement underscores KSMC’s dedication to advancing women’s health and providing specialized care in a critical area of oncology.

In addition to the surgical successes, the gynecological oncology clinics within KSMC have attended to approximately 4,000 patients during this period. These cases encompassed a range of gynecological cancers, including ovarian, cervical, uterine, endometrial, vaginal, and vulvar cancers, highlighting the hospital's comprehensive approach to women’s health and its commitment to addressing various oncological needs.

The announcement coincided with a special event held by KSMC on Monday in honor of World Gynecologic Oncology Day, themed "Stay ahead: your awareness, your salvation." This initiative aims to enhance public awareness about gynecological cancers, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and the critical role of early detection in improving health outcomes.

KSMC highlighted that the symptoms associated with gynecological cancers can vary significantly depending on factors such as the tumor's location, size, and growth rate. Common symptoms may include abnormal vaginal bleeding, unusual discharge, abdominal pain or pressure, abdominal swelling, changes in bowel and bladder habits, pain during intercourse, and the presence of lumps or sores. By educating the public about these signs, KSMC seeks to empower women to seek medical advice promptly and increase the likelihood of early diagnosis.

The surgical team specializing in gynecological oncology at KSMC comprises a multidisciplinary group of experts dedicated to providing comprehensive treatment and care for women affected by these cancers. Each treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient, taking into account the disease stage, symptom severity, and overall health status. Typically, the approach includes surgical excision of as much of the tumor as possible, accompanied by assessments to determine the extent of cancer spread. Furthermore, treatment modalities may encompass radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and hormonal therapy, ensuring a holistic and effective strategy for combating these challenging diseases.

Through its ongoing efforts, KSMC remains at the forefront of gynecological cancer care, striving to improve the quality of life for women and enhance community awareness regarding the importance of proactive health measures.
