King Saud University, SDRPY, HSA Group, HDP Collaborate to Train 200 Teachers in 3 Yemeni Governorates

Riyadh, October 21, 2024 — King Saud University, through the King Abdullah Institute for Research and Consulting Studies (KAI), has entered into a significant quadripartite agreement with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the Hayel Saeed Anam (HSA) Group, and the Humanitarian Development Program (HDP). This collaboration aims to train 200 male and female teachers in the Yemeni governorates of Aden, Hadhramaut, and Taiz, marking a pivotal step in enhancing educational standards in the region.

The initiative, funded by SDRPY and the HSA Group and implemented by KAI and HDP, will unfold over the course of one year. The project is designed to equip participating teachers with a diverse array of personal capabilities and specialized skills essential for effective teaching. A significant feature of this program is the provision of international professional teaching certificates, which will not only enhance the teachers' capacities and professional practices but also foster a culture of continuous professional development within the educational landscape.

These certificates will introduce a new model for professional development among educational staff and curriculum developers, including teachers and educational specialists. The professional certificate model is endorsed by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), ensuring its recognition and value in the broader educational community. This initiative is anticipated to improve the efficiency of teachers in the targeted governorates, thereby enhancing educational effectiveness and positively impacting the academic outcomes of both male and female students. Moreover, it aims to provide valuable employment opportunities for the teachers involved, contributing to their professional growth and stability.

The formal signing ceremony for this significant agreement took place at SDRPY's Riyadh headquarters, attended by key figures including Yemen's Minister of Education, Tareq Al-Akbari; SDRPY General Supervisor Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber; Vice President of King Saud University for Projects, Abdullah Sugair; Dean of KAI, Abdullah Al Thabit; and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Scholarships, Lina Al-Toaimi. Also present were notable representatives from the HSA Group, Yemen’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, and the Ministry of Education’s Training Sector, underscoring the collaborative nature of this endeavor.

SDRPY's overarching projects and initiatives are centered on activating education as a fundamental driver for development, aiming to enhance social and economic progress in Yemen. By providing educational access for students across all age groups, SDRPY is committed to fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.

King Saud University's involvement in this initiative highlights its crucial role in human resource development and its commitment to aligning with national objectives, particularly those outlined in Vision 2030. The university operates as a non-profit independent academic institution and seeks to reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a pivotal leader within the Arab and Islamic nations.

In addition to this educational initiative, SDRPY’s support for the education sector encompasses eight essential areas in various Yemeni governorates, including health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, government capacity development, and broader development programs. This comprehensive approach aims to uplift the quality of life and drive sustainable development across Yemen.
