Konoz Releases New Documentary on History of Saudi Waqf


New Documentary Launch: Konoz, part of the Ministry of Media, has released “Tharawat Khalida” (“Eternal Treasures”), a documentary exploring the history and development of the Waqf (endowments) sector in Saudi Arabia. The film debuted on the United Nations International Day of Charity, emphasizing the sector's societal impact.


Alignment with Vision 2030: The documentary reflects Saudi Vision 2030’s focus on supporting and advancing the Waqf sector, showcasing its historical and modern contributions to social and economic development.


Media Platforms and Konoz’s Role: “Tharawat Khalida” will be broadcast on Al Saudiya and Thaqafiya channels, Shahid and stc platforms, and the Ministry of Media’s YouTube channel. It is part of Konoz's broader effort to produce culturally significant media, which includes previous works like “Station 7” and “Saudi Atlas.”


Riyadh, September 6, 2024 – In a significant cultural and educational initiative, the Ministry of Media's Konoz program has introduced a compelling new Arabic documentary titled “Tharawat Khalida” (Eternal Treasures). This film offers an in-depth exploration of the Waqf (endowments) sector in Saudi Arabia, tracing its rich historical roots and its evolution over centuries. The documentary was unveiled on September 5 to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Charity, underscoring its relevance and the importance of charitable giving.


“Tharawat Khalida” delves into the historical and contemporary facets of endowments, shedding light on the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing these invaluable assets. Through vivid storytelling and detailed analysis, the film highlights the significant role that endowments have played in Saudi society, both historically and in modern times. It showcases a diverse range of endowment projects, from ancient initiatives to contemporary efforts, illustrating their profound impact on social and economic development.


The documentary aligns with the goals set forth by Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes the importance of supporting and advancing the Waqf sector as part of a broader strategy for cultural and social enrichment. By commemorating the International Day of Charity, “Tharawat Khalida” aims to inspire viewers to engage more deeply with charitable activities and to appreciate the enduring value of endowments in enriching societal welfare.


This latest release from Konoz marks the culmination of a series of high-caliber documentaries and films dedicated to capturing and celebrating narratives of success, philanthropy, and cultural heritage. The film is set to air on prominent platforms including Al Saudiya and Thaqafiya channels, as well as the Shahid and stc television services, and will

also be accessible through the Ministry of Media’s YouTube channel.


Konoz is a key component of the Human Capacity Development Program, which supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 by producing a range of media content that documents and promotes the cultural and civilizational achievements of Saudi Arabia.
