KSrelief Implements the Saudi Noor Voluntary Project to Combat Blindness and Its Causes in Sudan

Khartoum, October 17, 2024 – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has successfully implemented the Saudi Noor Voluntary Project in Sudan, aimed at addressing blindness and its underlying causes. This impactful initiative took place from July 15 to September 15, 2024, across several cities, including Atbara, Port Sudan, Kassala, and Ad-Damazin. A dedicated team of six specialized optometry volunteers played a crucial role in delivering essential eye care services throughout the campaign.

During this comprehensive medical outreach, the KSrelief volunteer team achieved remarkable results, performing a total of 1,104 eye surgeries and procedures. These included 187 retinal injections, 150 glaucoma surgeries, 6 strabismus surgeries, 157 retinal surgeries, 306 laser surgeries, and 403 minor eye surgeries. This extensive range of treatments not only provided immediate relief to patients but also significantly improved their quality of life.

The Saudi Noor Voluntary Project is part of a broader commitment by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, to support humanitarian and relief efforts in various countries. By focusing on the medical sector, this initiative underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to aiding low-income patients suffering from eye diseases, particularly in regions with limited access to healthcare.

KSrelief's efforts in Sudan reflect the organization’s ongoing mission to enhance healthcare accessibility and improve medical services for vulnerable populations. The initiative not only showcases the effectiveness of volunteer medical teams but also highlights the importance of international cooperation in tackling pressing health challenges.

As part of its overarching goals, KSrelief continues to expand its humanitarian programs, aiming to reach those in need with compassionate and effective medical care. The success of the Saudi Noor Voluntary Project exemplifies the positive impact that targeted medical interventions can have on communities grappling with the burden of preventable blindness and other eye-related issues. Through such initiatives, KSrelief reaffirms its commitment to alleviating suffering and promoting health and well-being for all.
