On November 29, 2024, Dr. Hana Omar, Director of Partnerships and International Relations at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), met with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Riyadh. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Conference on Conjoined Twins and was led by Kato Ken, Chief Representative of the JICA Yemen Office.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ongoing humanitarian relief efforts and explored potential avenues for deeper cooperation between KSrelief and JICA. The conversation centered around strategies for enhancing their humanitarian programs, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as Yemen, where both organizations have been actively engaged in providing critical aid.
The JICA delegation commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian causes, highlighting the successful large-scale conjoined twins separation program. This program, spearheaded by KSrelief, has gained global recognition for its outstanding medical achievements and its impact on the lives of children affected by this rare condition. The delegation also praised the well-organized International Conference on Conjoined Twins, which brought together global experts to share knowledge and collaborate on new solutions for such complex medical challenges.
Dr. Omar reaffirmed KSrelief’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with international organizations like JICA, stressing that such collaborations are essential for addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development goals. The meeting underscored the importance of joint efforts in addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the region and ensuring that humanitarian assistance is both sustainable and effective.
As Saudi Arabia continues to position itself as a global leader in humanitarian initiatives, this meeting marked an important step in strengthening international cooperation and fostering innovative solutions to humanitarian challenges in the Middle East and beyond.
