Colombo, November 11, 2024 – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has launched a significant healthcare initiative in Sri Lanka aimed at combating blindness and treating the diseases that cause it. The Saudi Noor Voluntary Project, which operates out of the Hambantota Camp, has been instrumental in providing much-needed medical care to individuals suffering from eye conditions, particularly in underserved communities. This initiative is part of KSrelief’s broader mission to support the global medical sector and assist low-income patients struggling with eye diseases.
Over the course of the project, the KSrelief volunteer medical team has made a remarkable impact, examining 4,500 patients in need of eye care. The team has been actively involved in diagnosing and treating various eye conditions that can lead to blindness, offering hope and improved quality of life to those affected. As part of its outreach efforts, the team has distributed 600 pairs of eyeglasses, providing a simple yet effective solution for many individuals who suffer from refractive errors that impair their vision.
In addition to offering basic eye care services, the KSrelief team has performed 115 specialized eye surgeries, all of which have been successful. These surgeries, which addressed more complex eye conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma, have had a transformative effect on the patients' lives, restoring their sight and allowing them to regain their independence. The success of these surgeries highlights the expertise of the KSrelief medical team and their dedication to improving the health and well-being of the communities they serve.
The Saudi Noor Voluntary Project reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts worldwide, particularly in the medical field. By providing free, high-quality eye care services, KSrelief is not only alleviating the burden of eye diseases but also helping to prevent the long-term social and economic consequences of vision impairment. Through this initiative, KSrelief is making a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable populations, ensuring that patients in Sri Lanka, and potentially other countries in the future, have access to the essential healthcare services they need.
This project further underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s role as a global leader in humanitarian aid and its continuous efforts to bring relief to those in need, regardless of their geographic location or economic status. The Saudi Noor Voluntary Project serves as a beacon of hope for individuals who otherwise may not have access to such specialized care, reaffirming KSrelief’s dedication to improving lives and communities worldwide.
