The initiative also focuses on retaining skilled medical professionals in Yemen to support local healthcare needs and reduce the migration of technical personnel.

Riyadh, November 29, 2024 – In a significant step towards supporting the rehabilitation of individuals affected by conflict in Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Wars and Disasters Victims Protection Association (IRVD) to operate a Prosthetic Limbs and Rehabilitation Center in Aden Governorate. This vital initiative is expected to directly benefit over 6,000 individuals in need of prosthetic and rehabilitation services, marking a crucial development in Yemen’s recovery from ongoing conflict.

The agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the International Conference on Conjoined Twins in Riyadh, underscoring Saudi Arabia's continued commitment to addressing humanitarian needs both regionally and globally. Under the terms of the agreement, the new center will offer a comprehensive suite of rehabilitation services, including the diagnosis of disabilities, personalized treatment planning, the installation of prosthetic limbs, functional rehabilitation, and ongoing follow-up care. These services aim to restore mobility and improve the quality of life for individuals who have lost limbs due to the conflict, providing them with the tools to reintegrate into society and lead more independent lives.

A key aspect of the center's operations will be its focus on retaining skilled medical and technical personnel within Yemen. By providing a local center of excellence for prosthetics and rehabilitation, the initiative seeks to reduce the migration of specialized professionals, ensuring that Yemen’s own workforce is developed and maintained to support the country’s ongoing rehabilitation efforts. This strategy not only benefits individuals in need of rehabilitation but also strengthens Yemen’s healthcare infrastructure in the long term.

The Prosthetic Limbs and Rehabilitation Center is part of a broader series of humanitarian and relief initiatives implemented by KSrelief to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, who continue to endure the devastating effects of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Through projects like these, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its leadership in humanitarian assistance, working to restore dignity and provide hope for the millions affected by the crisis in Yemen.
