Total Mines Removed: Since its launch, the project has removed a total of 458,477 mines, addressing a major safety threat posed by indiscriminately scattered landmines throughout Yemen.

Impact on Civilian Safety: The clearance efforts are crucial in protecting vulnerable groups—such as children, women, and the elderly—by reducing the risks associated with landmines and facilitating the safe rebuilding of affected communities.

Aden, September 10, 2024 — The Masam project, an initiative spearheaded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), has achieved a significant milestone in its mine clearance efforts in Yemen. During the first week of September 2024, the project successfully dismantled 766 mines that had been planted by the Houthi militia across various regions of Yemen.

Since its inception, the Masam project has made remarkable progress in addressing the landmine crisis caused by the Houthi militias. To date, the project has removed a total of 458,477 mines that were indiscriminately scattered throughout the country. These mines have posed an acute danger to the civilian population, with particularly severe risks for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

The presence of these landmines has had a devastating impact on communities, obstructing access to essential services and displacing families from their homes. The Masam project’s ongoing efforts are crucial in mitigating these risks, restoring safety to affected areas, and facilitating the return of normalcy to communities ravaged by conflict.

The project’s operations involve a comprehensive approach to mine clearance, including meticulous surveying, detecting, and safely neutralizing explosive devices. By removing these hazardous remnants of war, the Masam project is not only protecting lives but also enabling the safe rebuilding of infrastructure and promoting stability in regions severely affected by the conflict.

KSrelief's commitment to this humanitarian endeavor reflects its broader mission to alleviate suffering and support recovery efforts in Yemen. The successful dismantling of these mines represents a vital step toward ensuring a safer environment for civilians and advancing the country’s path to recovery and peace.
