Jeddah, October 27, 2024 — In a significant humanitarian initiative, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has entered into a partnership with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to provide critical food aid to Yemen’s most vulnerable families. The cooperation agreement, valued at $25 million, was signed today during the Donors' Conference to Support Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region, held in Jeddah.
The signing ceremony saw Senior Advisor for Medical and Humanitarian Research at KSrelief, Dr. Ziyad bin Ahmed Meemish, alongside WFP’s Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Carl Skau, formally endorse the partnership. Advisor to the Royal Court and KSrelief Supervisor General, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, was also present, highlighting the Kingdom’s commitment to this cause.
The agreement targets substantial relief efforts with plans to distribute 13,798 tons of essential food items to combat food insecurity among Yemen’s most distressed populations. Beyond immediate food distribution, the program aims to bolster resilience within the community. It includes provisions for conditional financial assistance to participating families, supporting sustainable initiatives such as agricultural land rehabilitation, water barrier construction, and providing necessary equipment for local fishermen. These measures aim to strengthen food supply chains over six planned distribution cycles.
This vital aid package is projected to benefit 546,364 individuals directly across Yemen’s governorates, including Hudaydah, Dhale, Marib, Al-Bayda, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra. Additionally, 57,313 individuals will receive indirect support from this initiative. The partnership underscores Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to aiding the Yemeni people amidst their humanitarian crisis, promoting food security, and helping to restore essential resources.
