New York, September 29, 2024 — The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has taken a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare access in Sudan by signing a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This pivotal agreement, valued at $1,451,000, aims to establish and equip a state-of-the-art diagnostic medical center in Port Sudan, a region in dire need of improved medical services.
The signing ceremony was attended by high-profile officials, including Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, and Achim Steiner, the UNDP Administrator. The event occurred against the backdrop of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, emphasizing the international commitment to humanitarian efforts.
The agreement was formalized by Dr. Hana Omar, Director of the Partnerships and International Relations Department at KSrelief, and Abdullah Al-Dardari, UNDP Assistant Secretary General and Director of the Regional Office for Arab States. Together, they underscored the collaborative effort to bolster healthcare infrastructure in regions that face significant challenges.
As part of this initiative, the Port Sudan Diagnostic Center will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation, including the procurement and installation of an MRI machine. This advancement is crucial for enhancing the local population's access to timely and affordable medical imaging services, which are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
The project is poised to benefit approximately 1,985,485 individuals, significantly impacting public health outcomes in the region. This initiative aligns with KSrelief's broader mission of improving healthcare capacity in underprivileged areas and reflects a commitment to addressing urgent health challenges faced by vulnerable populations.
Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that this agreement is part of a series of humanitarian and relief projects aimed at elevating the healthcare sector in needy countries. He stated, “By partnering with UNDP, we are not only enhancing healthcare access but also reinforcing our dedication to supporting communities in their quest for better health and well-being.”
This collaboration signifies a meaningful stride towards building a sustainable healthcare framework in Sudan, where many individuals lack access to essential medical services. As KSrelief continues to expand its humanitarian efforts, this project highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing pressing global health issues.
