New York, September 30, 2024 – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to establish and equip a state-of-the-art diagnostic medical center in Port Sudan, Sudan. The signing ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was attended by prominent officials, including Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, and Achim Steiner, Administrator of the UNDP.
The agreement, valued at $1.451 million, aims to benefit approximately 1,985,485 individuals by significantly enhancing access to medical diagnostic services in the region. The Port Sudan Diagnostic Center will be rehabilitated, with plans to purchase and install a modern MRI machine, improving the availability of advanced medical imaging at a more affordable cost to the local population. The initiative is a crucial step toward strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Sudan, where access to such services is limited.
The agreement was officially signed by Dr. Hana Omar, Director of the Partnerships and International Relations Department at KSrelief, and Abdullah Al-Dardari, UNDP Assistant Secretary General and Director of the Regional Office for Arab States. Both organizations underscored the importance of this partnership in improving the healthcare capacity in Sudan, aligning with the broader mission of KSrelief to provide humanitarian assistance in regions of need.
This initiative forms part of a wider series of humanitarian and relief projects spearheaded by KSrelief, focusing on bolstering healthcare sectors in underserved countries. Through this collaboration, KSrelief reaffirms its commitment to providing life-saving medical services and improving the quality of healthcare available to vulnerable populations, contributing to long-term health sector development in Sudan.*
