On September 23, 2024, in New York, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the World Food Programme (WFP) established a partnership aimed at preventing acute malnutrition in Somalia’s drought-stricken areas. This collaboration involves a significant investment of $4.5 million, which will directly support 180,148 individuals. The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, and Cindy Hensley McCain, Executive Director of the WFP, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The initiative will facilitate the procurement of 1,068.5 metric tons of food, specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of 57,301 pregnant and lactating women, as well as 122,847 children under the age of two. This agreement exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s commitment to humanitarian assistance in some of the world’s most impoverished regions.
