Larry ten Voorde wins second rain-soaked race at Nürburgring

Larry ten Voorde secured his second dominant lights-to-flag victory this weekend at the Nürburgring in severe rain. The Dutchman won the eighth round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, beating off German Leon Köhler and Danish Porsche Junior Bastian Buus. As a result, Ten Voorde now has a 51-point advantage over Harry King in the overall rankings. The UK driver of the Allied Racing-sponsored Porsche 911 GT3 Cup finished fifth, but a time penalty dropped him to ninth.

Race 8 Just prior to the start of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland event, heavy rain began to fall over the Eifel. The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland mechanics faced difficulties as a result, forcing them to swiftly switch out slick tires for wet tires, soften the anti-roll bars, and raise the ride height of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in order to increase mechanical traction. Additionally, because there was a limited amount of time, the angle of the rear wing was adjusted steeper to produce greater downforce on the rear axle. Larry ten Voorde, the winner, praised the race director's choice, saying, "But it was the right call not to have a rolling start behind the safety car but to have a standing start."

The Dutch driver, who was racing for the GP Elite team, secured his 30th pole position in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. He maintained his lead both at the start of the race and when it was resumed again due to safety car phases. He earned his sixth victory of the year by repeating his strong performance from the race on Saturday. The two-time Carrera Cup champion compared the race's track conditions to "dancing on the edge of a razor blade" because of the water on the track. But I believe we put on a fantastic performance for the audience.

Larry ten Voorde

Larry ten Voorde now has a sizable lead over Harry King in the overall rankings. At the Nürburgring, the English driver for the German team Allied Racing came in fifth. However, he received a 10-second penalty for causing a collision during the race. King subsequently dropped to ninth place in the overall standings as a result.

Bastian Buus, a Porsche Junior who started on the front row of the grid with ten Voorde, finished in second place. But the Allied Racing team's 20-year-old Dane had to fight very hard for it. He dropped back a few spots right away and then battled with the capable youngster Alexander Tauscher, who briefly held second place, for several circuits. "In my career, this was just my second standing start in the rain. Because of too much wheelspin, I didn't get off the line well, admits Buus. "I'm happy that I still came in second; I need those championship points badly."

Bastian Buus wasn't Alexander Tauscher's only challenging competitor in the race. The 21-year-old rookie and his Huber Racing teammate Leon Köhler engaged in a head-to-head battle during the final five laps of the 15-lap sprint. Köhler quickly moved into third place just before the finish line. "Alexander passed me in the run to the first corner after a poor start by me. He's on my team, so I definitely didn't want to take any big chances in the fight. It eventually worked out, and I'm pleased to have finished on the podium again this weekend," the German said.

Fifth place winner and Dutchman Morris Schuring (FACH AUTO TECH) was Alexander Tauscher. Sixth-place finisher Vincent Andronaco took first place in the rookie category. The 18-year-old Hamburger discussed his first rookie triumph: "The race was extremely challenging due to the wet track and the limited visibility, but it was a lot of fun. In a repetition of his performance from Saturday, Sören Spreng drove his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup across the finish line first in the ProAm division. The German, who also takes the top spot in the ProAm division, said, "I made it through the remaining laps unscathed despite the difficult circumstances. I survived the chaos of the first laps."

What a contest! Both the drivers and the mechanics had their work cut out for them just before the race. I'm proud that they delivered the audience exciting and fair entertainment despite the exceedingly challenging circumstances. I'm especially happy that Vincent Andronaco, a different driver from the talent pool, took first place in the rookie division. Congratulations to Sören Spreng, who has emerged as a title contender in the ProAm division, and to Larry ten Voorde, who earned his fifth victory of the year, as well, added Hurui Issak, project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Race 7 The winner of round seven of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland at the Nürburgring is Larry ten Voorde. The Dutchman started the race from pole position in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup that the GP Elite team was fielding, and he maintained his lead all the way to the checkered flag. The second position was successfully retained by Allied Racing driver Harry King of the United Kingdom. Leon Köhler, a German driver for Huber Racing, finished third. On Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 11:20 a.m. local time, the next Carrera Cup race will begin.

There was no denying Larry ten Voorde's relief: The Dutchman secured a dominant lights-to-flag victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland at the Nürburgring after two unimpressive contests in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Porsche's international one-make cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. "I think the past two weeks were the hardest of my career thus far. But we persevered. I put in a ton of effort, as did the squad, to regain our previous form. Today's victory is a wonderful reward, and I feel lighter as a result, said the 26-year-old. Larry ten Voorde has increased his lead in the standings with his fourth victory in seven Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland races.

Harry King finished 2.5 seconds later in second place on the sprint course at the Nürburgring. "I'm happy, especially because this was my first race at this track. The 22-year-old Windsor, England, native stated, "Of course, another podium result is my target for the race on Sunday. He quickly passed Morris Schuring (FACH AUTO TECH) after only a few meters while operating the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup raced by the German team Allied-Racing. Following a safety car phase, King was able to quickly distance himself from the pack of challengers when the race resumed.

Leon Köhler, who also passed Schuring on the opening lap as a result of the Dutchman's subpar start, led this group. "I haven't had a fantastic start to the season. Because of this, I'm very ecstatic and thrilled for the team that I've returned to the podium with. As he enters the eighth Carrera Cup round, Köhler expressed hope that he could place higher in the field on Sunday.

Porsche Youth Harry King's Allied-Racing colleague Bastian Buus finished fourth. The Dutch drivers Loek Hartog (Team GP Elite) and Morris Schuring (FACH AUTO TECH) were fifth and sixth, respectively, after the Dane dropped out of these positions owing to a time penalty.

Jasin Ferati of the FACH Auto Tech team won the rookie division for the first time. The 20-year-old Swiss racer exclaimed, "I could get used to being at the top of the rookie podium for the first time. In the ProAm class, Sören Spreng finished in first place. This outcome saw the German from the GP Elite team take the top spot in the ProAm standings.

Preview

Next weekend (August 4-6, 2023) will see the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland's fourth round at the Nürburgring. On Saturday and Sunday, the 32-car Porsche 911 GT3 Cup field will compete in two 30-minute races on the shorter Grand Prix track. Leading the championship, Larry ten Voorde is one of the strong favorites. The two-time Carrera Cup champion from the Netherlands recently scored a triumph in Germany's Eifel region.

The lap times will be even closer than normal on the tiny 3.6-kilometer Grand Prix circuit. That'll be difficult, particularly for qualifying. However, even if qualifying doesn't go as well as I'd like, there will be plenty of opportunities to pass, which will allow us to gain positions in the race, according to Larry ten Voorde, the current leader of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland standings. The Dutchman from the GP Elite squad is refusing to put himself under pressure despite having already secured three victories this season. Of course, I'd like to build on my success from 2022 and take home at least one victory, but the pressure is really on my rivals because I lead the standings by 28 points over the second-place finisher.

Harry King, who is hot on his heels, is 28 points behind. The British racer has one round victory this year while operating his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. I will be competing in this race at the Nürburgring for the first time. I only have experience with the track from the official test day for the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Rain at the time affected my preparation, the Allied-Racing driver says. "My main objective is to catch up to Larry."

Although the tall GP Elite driver Loek Hartog has won two races so far this season, he has recently struggled. "I'm not sure why things went so badly at my home race at Zandvoort of all places," the Dutchman, who had to settle for a fifth and eleventh in front of his home audience and, as a result, lost his lead in the standings, adds. "I'm hoping to regain my old form at the Nürburgring. I feel comfortable on the course, and I want to battle for another podium result.

Porsche Junior Bastian Buus has achieved a second-place finish at Zandvoort, moving him closer to the front runners. "Things are going extremely well now after a few difficulties at the beginning of the season. The races at the Nürburgring are thrilling, and I enjoy going there. I might even pull off my first victory of the year," the 20-year-old Dane said.

"Things should be quite competitive at the top since the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland drivers are very familiar with the Nürburgring. It is a regular fixture on our schedule, and we also held the official preseason test here. We've had three different winners so far this season. Looking ahead to the forthcoming Carrera Cup weekend, Hurui Issak, Project Manager Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, says, "Let's see if we can add a fourth and perhaps even a fifth in the Eifel.

A delegation from Frankfurt Galaxy is the extremely special guest Issak is anticipating at the Nürburgring. Young drivers from the talent pool recently had an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the American football squad. In exchange, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland has extended an invitation to the athletes so they can experience the world of auto racing.

Teams, ProAm, and Rookie classifications

For GP Elite, Larry ten Voorde, Loek Hartog, and Huub van Eijndhoven compete. The Dutch racing team is currently leading the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland team standings. Their main competition is the Bavarian team Allied-Racing, which fields Porsche Junior drivers Bastian Buus, King, and Andronaco.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland now gives points in the Rookie and ProAm categories in addition to the overall driver and team rankings. Eleven gifted young people from six different nations compete among the newcomers. After six races, Theo Oeverhaus maintains his title lead. The German driver from the Talent Pool is competing for the CarTech Motorsport Bonk squad and is currently ranked sixth overall. The current leader in the ProAm rankings is Bulgarian Georgi Donchev from the ProfilDoors by Huber Racing squad.
