Major issues discussed during the conference included the provision of social and medical services according to international standards and the care of prisoners.


The conference's focus would be on the successful prisoner reform programs and the effectiveness at which they work for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to integrate prisoners back into society.



Cairo, May 28, 2024. The delegation from the Ministry of Interior was led by Major General Majid bin Bandar Al-Duweish, the Director General of Prisons. In the Arab Republic of Egypt, the 22nd Annual Arab Conference of Heads of Punitive and Correctional Institutions was held at the Police Academy in Cairo. The two-day meeting was attended by a number of chairmen and members of Arab delegations. Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, stressed in his opening remarks that "the agenda of the conference reflects Arab countries' commitment to improving inmate treatment in punitive and correctional institutions, as well as providing social and health care in accordance with international standards." Koman is the Council of Arab Interior Ministers' Secretary General. The seminar also brought to light the extraordinary experience the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has in providing outstanding reform programs for prisoners. The success of these initiatives in assisting detainees with their incarceration and their successful reintegration into society upon their release was highlighted throughout the conference.
