RIYADH, March 29, 2025: Syria and Lebanon have signed an agreement underscoring the strategic significance of border demarcation, as reported by Al Ekhbariya on Friday.
Lebanese and Syrian defense ministers met in Jeddah on Thursday to strengthen security and military cooperation. The Syrian delegation, led by Murhaf Abu Qasra, and the Lebanese delegation, headed by Michel Menassa, discussed forming legal and specialized committees to enhance bilateral coordination and address security challenges, particularly along their shared border.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman facilitated the discussions and expressed hope that the agreement would mark a new phase in relations between the two nations. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the dialogue and agreed to convene a follow-up meeting in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in March, border tensions escalated after Syrian authorities accused Hezbollah of abducting and killing three Syrian soldiers in Lebanon, a claim the Iran-backed group denied. The incident triggered cross-border clashes that resulted in seven Lebanese casualties.
Saudi Arabia has urged Syria and Lebanon to resolve their disputes through political and diplomatic means while respecting sovereignty, stability, and international law. According to Asharq, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for any initiative that enhances security and stability in both countries and contributes to regional peace, Al Ekhbariya reported.
