Lexus has secured the top position in the J.D. Power Dependability Survey for the second consecutive year, according to the 2024 study results on vehicle dependability in the United States. The survey, based on evaluations and test drives, named Lexus as the top-ranked brand in luxury brand loyalty for 2024.
In the study, which involved responses from 30,595 original owners of 2021 models after three years of ownership, Lexus emerged as the least faulty car among all models. This recognition underscores Lexus's dedication to providing high-quality and reliable luxury cars.
The comprehensive study covered 184 specific problem areas across nine major vehicle categories. Among the key findings, issues related to information and entertainment systems were identified as among the most bothersome for owners, along with increased annoyance from driver assistance system alerts.
Frank Hanley, JD Power's Senior Director of Automotive Performance Measurement, emphasized the challenges in the automotive industry and the need for continuous efforts to improve vehicle quality and long-term reliability. He expressed hope that the report would assist automotive companies in enhancing the quality of their products and improving the long-term customer experience.
Hanley noted that the automotive industry is undergoing increased competition, making it essential to focus on retaining and expanding loyal customer bases. Understanding the perceptions of current vehicle owners helps automakers and suppliers identify the reasons customers remain loyal to a particular vehicle model or brand. Despite variations across the automotive market, quality and reliability remain crucial factors for consumers when considering a new car purchase.
The J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) focuses on issues faced by original owners of vehicles aged three years, providing valuable insights for manufacturers to design and build better vehicles with higher resale values. Consumers also use the study results to make more informed choices when deciding on a vehicle purchase.
