Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) has secured the top position in the Arab Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility, recognizing its dedication to community service through the "Schools of Scientific Excellence" program. This award spotlights the program's significant contributions to both the scientific and societal spheres.
The achievement is a testament to the Maaden Initiative, which inaugurated two Scientific Excellence Schools in Arar and Turaif within the Northern Border Region since 2016. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Dhahran Valley Technology Company, affiliated with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Together with support from the regional education department, these schools have developed high-quality educational curricula aimed at nurturing critical thinking, talent development, and proficiency in natural sciences. The goal is to empower ambitious young individuals to pursue further education and fulfill the needs of national development and the job market.
The Schools of Excellence admit 200 new students annually, with over 1,200 students supported and 858 graduates since 2020. Of these graduates, 569 have gone on to pursue higher education at renowned local and international universities, specializing in fields such as engineering, mathematics, technology, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy.
Notably, Maaden has invested 158 million Saudi Riyals in this initiative, offering substantial growth opportunities to areas near the company's operations in the Northern Border Region. The initiative also contributes to the professional development of local teachers and enhances the annual capacity of local universities. It serves as a cornerstone of Maaden's commitment to fostering economic and social development in the regions where the company operates within the Kingdom.
The Schools of Excellence initiative is a vital component of Maaden's corporate social responsibility endeavors, aiming to make a positive impact in its operational areas. Additionally, Maaden directly supports local communities by providing job opportunities, enhancing training skills, and promoting workforce development.
