Madinah, October 31, 2023, In Madinah, an initiative is underway to introduce 165 bicycle and scooter stations, marking the Kingdom's inaugural public network of its kind. The project is being spearheaded by the Al-Maqar Development Company of the Municipality of Madinah in collaboration with a specialized transport services firm, to be executed in two phases. The first phase will focus on electric bicycles, with the second phase expanding the network to include electric scooters throughout Medina in the upcoming year.
Majid bin Mohammed Al-Shalhoub, CEO of Al-Maqar Development Company, outlined the initial inclusion of 60 stations for electric bicycles and scooters, with plans to grow to 165 stations. The objective is to enhance urban traffic flow through an eco-friendly system that aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), aiming to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the quality of life by minimizing commuting times within cities.
The scooter and bicycle network will be seamlessly integrated with other public transportation options in Madinah, including the Haramain High Speed Train Station and the bus network. This will provide residents and visitors of Madinah with additional mobility solutions, fostering a healthier lifestyle while supporting sustainable development in line with Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI).
