Barcelona, November 6, 2024 – The Al Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA) is participating in the 14th annual Expo and the World Congress of Smart Cities (CEWC24), currently underway in Barcelona, Spain. This marks the authority’s third consecutive appearance at the prestigious global event, which brings together leading cities, urban innovators, and experts to discuss and showcase the future of smart, sustainable urban development. The event, held from November 5 to 7, serves as a key platform for MDA to highlight the transformative strides the city of Madinah is making in the realm of smart cities.
At this year’s Expo, the authority is playing a central role in shaping thought leadership on the future of urban living. MDA representatives are delivering keynote speeches and engaging in high-level panel discussions focused on human-centered, sustainable city concepts that prioritize the well-being of residents and visitors alike. Central to their presence at the event is the Madinah Pavilion, a dynamic exhibition that underscores the city’s pioneering efforts in adopting advanced, integrated technologies to enhance quality of life.
The pavilion showcases a series of cutting-edge innovations that position Madinah as a leader in the smart cities arena. Among the highlights is the City Experiences Guide, a groundbreaking initiative recognized as the world’s first comprehensive guide to urban experiences and innovation. This interactive tool offers insights into the evolving landscape of urban living, bridging the gap between technological advances and everyday city life. Also featured are two national platforms, Raseel and Manarah. Raseel focuses on smart city solutions, enabling seamless connectivity and efficiency across urban systems, while Manarah provides an advanced urban data platform that empowers decision-making through real-time information.
The pavilion also highlights a range of smart technologies being implemented across Madinah, including a LoRaWAN-enabled smart lighting network that promises enhanced energy efficiency and operational cost reductions. Additionally, the city’s 3D geospatial information system (GIS) for modeling the Prophet’s Mosque offers a cutting-edge approach to urban planning and heritage conservation, combining spatial intelligence with real-time data to optimize both visitor experience and infrastructure management.
MDA’s participation in CEWC24 is a testament to its ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability within Madinah’s urban landscape. The authority continues to explore and implement technologies that not only make the city more efficient and livable but also ensure its ability to serve as a global example of how cities can evolve in the digital age. As the world moves toward more interconnected and data-driven urban environments, Madinah stands poised at the forefront of this transformation, demonstrating the potential of smart city technologies to enrich lives and create a more sustainable future for all.
