Makkah, March 15, 2024, The Grand Mosque in Makkah was bustling with worshippers today as they convened for the inaugural Friday prayer of Ramadan. Amidst an atmosphere of security and serenity, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, in collaboration with various departments, exerted extensive efforts to accommodate the large congregations.
Preparations commenced at the break of dawn, with authorities meticulously arranging courtyards, gates, and corridors to facilitate seamless movement and prayer. The influx of worshippers became apparent from the early hours of the morning, filling the mosque's interior and corridors, with rows extending onto adjacent roads. The third Saudi expansion of the mosque witnessed a notable turnout across its three floors.
To enrich the worshippers' experience, the general authority implemented a comprehensive array of services. Qurans with various translations were readily accessible for those desiring to recite the Holy Quran. Cleaning endeavors were intensified throughout the mosque, while loudspeakers, ventilation systems, and air conditioners operated flawlessly to ensure a comfortable ambiance. Simultaneous translation devices for the Friday sermon were distributed, enabling worshippers from diverse backgrounds to fully grasp the message.
For individuals with mobility constraints, 5,000 regular and electric carts were readily available, accessible through the "Mobility" app. Systematic plans for disinfection and organization of cart pushers further streamlined the process. Additionally, observers were strategically positioned to guide and direct worshippers, ensuring a smooth flow of movement. Security personnel were also present to assist with crowd control and provide guidance as required.
