Mawani announces Qatar's Milaha adds Upper Gulf Express to Dammam

Dammam, January 23, 2024, In a recent press release, the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced the integration of the Upper Gulf Express (UGX) by Qatar Navigation 'Milaha' into King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam. This strategic shipping service establishes crucial connections between the Kingdom and ports across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, reinforcing Saudi ports as pivotal links to regional and global ports. This development aligns with Mawani's commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with major shipping lines, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) objectives to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub.

The UGX service, scheduled to commence operations on January 25th, 2024, will link King Abdul Aziz Port with key ports including Sohar in Oman, Jebel Ali in the UAE, Hamad in Qatar, Shuwaikh in Kuwait, and Umm Qasr in Iraq. Two vessels with a combined capacity of 1,015 TEUs will operate regular weekly trips, facilitating seamless connectivity.

This initiative is anticipated to enhance the competitive edge of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, making it more appealing to exporters, importers, and shipping agents. The port, equipped with 43 fully serviced berths capable of handling large vessels and modern operational services, has a substantial capacity of 105 million tons for various cargo types.

In 2023, Mawani successfully introduced 31 new shipping services, establishing connections between Saudi ports and those in the East and West in collaboration with prominent international shipping lines. This ongoing expansion underscores Mawani's commitment to positioning Saudi ports as key players in global maritime trade.
