Riyadh, March 17, 2024, In a recent press release issued by the Saudi Ports Authority 'Mawani', it was announced that VASI Shipping Pte Ltd has launched a new shipping service named 'IMS' at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, establishing vital connections between the Kingdom and Southeast Asia and India. Mawani emphasized that this service is designed to strengthen its strategic alliances with major international shipping companies, bolster the maritime sector, and contribute significantly to national economic growth.
The statement underscored the importance of this initiative in advancing the role of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam as a key player in enhancing the maritime transportation sector and logistical services. It aims to facilitate the smooth movement of exports and imports, aligning with the objectives outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) to position the Kingdom as a pivotal global logistics hub bridging three continents.
The newly introduced shipping service links King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with five regional and international ports, including Klang in Malaysia, Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia, Nhava Sheva in India, and Jebel Ali in the UAE. These connections are serviced by regular weekly trips, with a combined capacity of up to 1,800 Twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Furthermore, the press release highlighted the remarkable performance of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, which achieved a record-breaking monthly throughput of 235,820 TEUs in February. This milestone underscores the port's exceptional operational services and modern infrastructure, enabling it to efficiently handle various types of cargo and containers with a total capacity of 105 million tons.
