Jeddah, December 21, 2024 – The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced today the launch of a new cargo service, "MXS1," introduced by the Silmar Group, to further enhance the capabilities of Jeddah Islamic Port and facilitate the growth of the Kingdom’s import and export operations. This strategic move is part of Mawani’s ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of Saudi Arabia’s ports, with a focus on creating a reliable, sustainable, and safe operational environment that will support the Kingdom’s ambitions to become a global logistics hub.
The addition of the MXS1 cargo service is a significant step toward strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position within the global maritime network, contributing to the country’s goal of improving its ranking in the maritime connectivity index. This move aligns with the broader objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a pivotal logistics center connecting key markets across three continents—Asia, Africa, and Europe. Through these efforts, Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a central link in global trade, driving economic growth and enhancing its competitiveness on the international stage.
The MXS1 service boasts a capacity of 2,076 standard containers, enhancing the port's cargo handling capabilities and increasing throughput capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port. The new service will connect Jeddah to several strategic ports in key international markets, including Mundra in India, Karachi in Pakistan, Mersin and Yarimca in Türkiye, and Jebel Ali in the UAE. These connections will not only enhance trade between Saudi Arabia and these countries but also streamline the flow of goods, supporting more efficient and timely deliveries.
This development is expected to bolster Saudi Arabia's role as a vital player in global trade routes, expanding access to international markets for local businesses and enhancing the Kingdom’s competitiveness in the global logistics and supply chain sectors. With its continued investment in port infrastructure and its focus on enhancing operational capabilities, Mawani is committed to supporting the Kingdom’s strategic vision of becoming a key global logistics and trade hub.
