The Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit established the Ministerial Committee, which Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, chairs, met with Jose Manuel Alvarez, the Foreign Minister of Spain, on June 1, 2024, in Madrid, Spain. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar; Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Palestine; Ayman Safadi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan; Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister of Turkey; and Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), were the four individuals who comprised the Committee. The Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip and the city of Rafah was the primary topic of discussion.
The conversation emphasized the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the provision of substantial and sustained humanitarian help throughout the Gaza Strip. The Committee expressed its appreciation for Spain's actions due to its recognition of the Palestinian state and its battle for the Palestinian people's right to live in dignity and freedom inside their independent, sovereign state, founded on June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital. The conference also examined the Committee's efforts to promote Palestinian statehood and implement the two-state solution. We conducted this evaluation in the context of the Arab Peace Initiative and other pertinent international initiatives.
The delegates highlighted how important it is for the international community to recognize the Palestinian state and strive toward a peace that is both meaningful and comprehensive, protecting the rights of the Palestinian people while also ensuring the stability of the region. They have criticized the need for the discontinuation of all unilateral and illegal Israeli operations in West Bank, consideration of international law and humanitarian standards, and holding the Israeli occupation responsible for the crimes they have committed against the innocent civilian population.
