On October 13, 2024, the Saudi Falcons Club celebrated the successful conclusion of the 2024 Melwah Racing event, hosted at its headquarters in Malham, located north of Riyadh. This prestigious six-day competition showcased an impressive 287 falcons, representing the skills and dedication of 176 falconers from across the region. The event culminated in the distribution of SAR 750,000 in prize money, awarded to 30 distinguished winners.
The Melwah Racing event is of great significance to Saudi falconers as it serves as a crucial qualifying round for several upcoming major competitions. These include the Saudi Falcons Club Cup, scheduled to take place from November 13 to 20 in Hafar Al-Batin, the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival, which will run from November 28 to December 14, and the AlUla Falconry Cup, set for February 9 to 15, 2025.
The primary objective of the Saudi Falcons Club is to preserve and promote Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage through falconry. The club actively supports related activities that enable falconers to pursue their passion while also encouraging the development of their skills. Through participation in both local and international festivals, falconers are provided with opportunities to share their experiences and learn from one another, thereby enriching the falconry community.
During the Melwah Racing event, falcons competed in a thrilling 200-meter race. The competition was fierce, with the top five winners receiving substantial cash prizes amounting to SAR 100,000 per round. The prize distribution for the leading positions included SAR 30,000 for first place, SAR 25,000 for second, SAR 20,000 for third, SAR 15,000 for fourth, and SAR 10,000 for fifth. Additionally, falconers who placed sixth through tenth were each awarded SAR 5,000, recognizing their participation and skill.
