Riyadh, October 12, 2023, MENA Climate Week 2023 concluded after five vibrant days, drawing a record attendance for any UN Regional Climate Week, with over 9,000 participants from 137 nationalities across 240 sessions.
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, inaugurated the event, highlighting the MENA region's and Saudi Arabia's dedication to climate action. Ministers and organizations worldwide underscored the significance of discussions ahead of COP28 in Dubai.
Youth played a vital role, delivering speeches, moderating discussions, and introducing comprehensive programs, fostering the exchange of climate action ideas and solutions.
Notable announcements during the week included the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Greenhouse Gas Crediting and Offsetting Mechanism, the roadmap to fulfill the Saudi Green Initiative's 10 Billion Tree Target, and the Empowering Africa initiative, building on the Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking program.
Several Memorandums of Understanding were signed, including cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of India in electrical interconnectivity, green/clean hydrogen, and supply chains.
With MENA Climate Week 2023's conclusion, Saudi Arabia remains committed to advancing collaborative, transformative, and inclusive climate action, preparing for COP28 and addressing the global challenge of climate change.
