Arar, May 12, 2024, The Northern Borders Region is a vital migratory route for over 300 bird species each year. Its diverse landscapes and balanced ecosystem create a natural sanctuary for these avian visitors.
President of Aman Environmental Society in the Northern Borders Region Nasser Rashid Al-Majlad highlighted the crucial ecological and cultural role played by migratory birds.
"They contribute to plant reproduction and diversity through pollination, while also helping to control pests by consuming insects, reducing the need for harmful pesticides in agriculture," he said.
Al-Majlad also emphasizes the positive impact birds have on soil health and ecosystem balance, as they aid in soil aeration and seed dispersal near water bodies. One such bird is the demoiselle crane.
Furthermore, Al-Majlad underscored the importance of protecting migratory birds from poaching and environmental disruptions.
Strict anti-poaching laws have been implemented by the National Center for Wildlife, in view of the significance of these birds.
At the same time, the Aman Environmental Society has carried out awareness campaigns and established water basins to provide support and sustenance for migratory birds.
