Jeddah, March 04, 2024, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, is set to inaugurate the First International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms in Riyadh, underscoring the importance of addressing critical environmental challenges. The conference will gather a diverse group of international leaders, representatives from renowned organizations, and over 200 experts and researchers specializing in the field. The event will kick off with a panel discussion involving prominent figures and decision-makers, focusing on fostering regional collaboration in areas such as data sharing, capacity building, and international partnerships. This initiative aligns with the principles of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and aims to tackle the root causes and complexities associated with sand and dust storms. Participants will also deliberate on integrating sand and dust storm data into key decisions at the sixteenth session of the UN Conference of the Parties (COP 16), offering support to affected regions. A dedicated session entitled "Description and Characteristics of Dust" will feature contributions from distinguished academics and subject matter experts, shedding light on the nuances of this environmental phenomenon. Additionally, interactive exhibitions will accompany the conference, providing attendees with insights into the role and objectives of regional centers under the supervision of the Saudi National Center for Meteorology (NCM). These centers include the Sand and Dust Storm Warning Regional Center, the Regional Climate Change Center (RCCC), and the Regional Program for Cloud Seeding. The exhibitions will offer a platform to showcase Saudi Arabia's strides in environmental sustainability and climate resilience, spotlighting the nation's proactive initiatives in combating environmental challenges. Through this forum, the conference aims to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and awareness surrounding sand and dust storms, ultimately contributing to global efforts towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
