Cairo, November 06, 2023, The Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, has highlighted the significant global and regional changes underway in the transportation and logistics services sector in the Kingdom. These transformations are being driven by technological advancements, accelerated digitalization, and the utilization of big data and artificial intelligence. The overarching goal is to enhance performance efficiency and strengthen the sector's pivotal role in advancing sustainable development and supporting national economies.
Eng. Al-Jasser made these remarks during his speech at the fifth edition of the Smart Transport, Logistics, Infrastructure, and Traffic Fair and Forum for the Middle East and Africa Region (TransMEA 2023) in Cairo, inaugurated by Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. The event was attended by the Saudi Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Osama bin Ahmed Nugali, and witnessed participation from Arab transport ministers and high-ranking representatives from 300 companies spanning 50 countries.
In his address, Al-Jasser underscored the necessity of keeping pace with the rapid transformations occurring in the strategic transportation and logistics sector to achieve the stated objectives. This requires a comprehensive set of structural reforms and institutional changes aimed at enhancing sector efficiency and its developmental role.
The minister highlighted Saudi Arabia's ongoing development renaissance under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. He also emphasized the Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to establish the country as a global logistics hub, diversify the economy, and improve the quality of life in Saudi cities.
Eng. Al-Jasser further detailed the objectives outlined in the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services, initiated by HRH the Crown Prince. These include doubling the sector's contribution to the GDP, elevating the Kingdom's position in the Global Logistics Performance Index, increasing the share of public transport to more than 15% of total traffic, and reducing carbon emissions from the sector annually. The strategy also seeks to enhance airport capacity, quadruple port capacity, and improve safety in various modes of transportation to enhance the quality of life in the Kingdom.
