Minister Alfadley joins UNEA-6 in Nairobi, representing Environment, Water, and Agriculture

Nairobi, February 29, 2024, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley participated in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) in Nairobi, Kenya. He highlighted Saudi Arabia's environmental initiatives aimed at enhancing resilience in addressing challenges.

Alfadley emphasized that Saudi Arabia takes a holistic approach to the environment, focusing on protecting the natural environment and preserving biodiversity. The country has implemented various national legislation, strategies, and plans dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability, such as the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives.

He pointed out that Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in initiating the Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats Initiative, demonstrating its continuous commitment to global involvement. Additionally, to promote global action in conserving water resources, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the establishment of the Global Water Organization.

Minister Alfadley stated that Saudi Arabia would host regional and global environmental events, including the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16) and World Environment Day 2024. He urged discussions on climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, emphasizing the need for better coordination to explore solutions and achieve environmental goals. This collaboration is crucial for addressing environmental challenges and ensuring sustainability and societal well-being.
