Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef held discussions with local and international food companies at the Potato Conference in Hail Region, focusing on advancing the potato sector and exploring opportunities for agricultural-industrial integration.

Riyadh, December 7, 2024 – Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Alkhorayef, engaged in high-level discussions with prominent local and international food companies to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at enhancing the development of the potato sector. These discussions were held on the sidelines of the Potato Conference at Al-Maghwa Park in Hail Region, under the theme “The Future of the Potato Sector: From Agriculture to Industry.”

The session, which was attended by key industry stakeholders, focused on evaluating current efforts in the potato sector, identifying areas for further growth, and developing strategies to enhance its contribution to both the agricultural and industrial landscapes. Notably present at the meeting were Deputy Minister for Industry Affairs Eng. Khalil bin Salamah, and Chief Executive of the National Industrial Development Center (NIDC), Eng. Saleh Al-Solami.

Among the distinguished participants were top executives from leading global food companies, including PepsiCo Executive Vice President, the Chief Executive of Lamb Weston, and the Chief Executive of Al-Munajem Group. Also present were the Regional Director of Supply Chain for the Americana Agricultural Growth and Industry Company, the Chairman of Al-Dayfe Group, and the Chairman of Lehaa Group. These industry leaders, each with significant influence in the global food and agricultural markets, came together to discuss innovative ways to foster growth and efficiency in the potato sector.

The choice of Hail Region for hosting the event is significant, as it is a key agricultural hub for Saudi Arabia. The region is responsible for producing approximately 30% of the Kingdom’s potatoes, providing a strong foundation for the development of the sector. With its fertile lands and advanced agricultural techniques, Hail offers a competitive edge in the production of high-quality potatoes. Moreover, the region’s diverse industrial base, which includes food and beverage production, furniture manufacturing, and various other industries, positions it as an ideal location for the integration of agricultural production with industrial manufacturing.

The discussions at the conference highlighted the growing potential for the potato industry to contribute significantly to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, particularly in the areas of food security, industrial diversification, and the growth of the non-oil economy. The focus on advancing the potato sector aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices, reduce dependence on food imports, and encourage innovation in both agriculture and industry.

By bringing together local and international experts, the Potato Conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration aimed at building a sustainable and globally competitive potato industry in Saudi Arabia. These efforts are expected to drive long-term growth in the sector, benefiting not only the agricultural community but also the wider Saudi economy.
